Boardman bikes where is it made

Crucially the brand has been treated to a full deconstruct and rebuild to ensure that it meets with the future expectations of the Boardman team, consumer and market. Home Our Team Our Story. Dave and I discussed it and we felt there was a huge number of smaller developments that could make you go quicker. So I was officially appointed Head of Stuff. It ended up as marginal gains but really it was Head of Stuff. It was all about performance. British Cycling began spending more time in the wind-tunnel at Southampton University. As well as experts in the industry — like sprint coach Jan van Eijden — they also used the services of people from beyond the bubble of cycling. According to Boardman, this was key to the success of British Cycling, and that of his own range of bikes.

We visited the military, F1, academia, aviation… When we first went to McLaren, they knew nothing about cycling. For example, if I say to you will you use 39cm bars? You might say yes. What about 27s? Why not? What is your rationale for not doing that? A mix of ignorance and expertise is the ideal marriage for breaking boundaries. In came fashion designer Sally Cowan, who used to design underwear but was now driving development of skinsuits — with nothing off-limits.

However, with its ultra-high stiffness, aggressive geometry and low weight, the use case for the SLR Race was narrow. With the new platform, we combined the best features of both older bikes and improved aerodynamic performance and comfort to improve efficiency. Less aero drag equals less effort for the same speed, and greater comfort reduces fatigue over time helping people to ride faster for longer.

Matt Dowler: Absolutely. All of this was using the computing power available to us in conjunction with our manufacturing partners. In my defence, the bike had to be right, and a Bike of the Year award has proven it was a good decision! BikeRadar: When balancing aero and weight, was there one of those that had more of an emphasis? Matt Dowler: We focused on balancing aero performance, frame stiffness and ride quality to create an efficient bike, and the comparatively low weight is almost a by-product of this.

We actually produced some lighter prototypes using different carbon layups, but they were hasher on broken roads, so the negatives outweighed the positives of saving 50g. BikeRadar: You have been able to produce both a lightweight frame and fork at a complete bike price few can match.

We work directly with factories, cutting out any middlemen, and we sell directly to customers through Halfords and Tredz.
