Guest Big-Banana Posted December 12, Trolling is the one time I don't use Braid. I like a bit of stretch when trolling. Stick with mono. Geoff Posted December 12, Posted December 12, edited. Another reason. Edited December 12, by Reely.

All your points are valid everyone. Using braided line and an 8- to ounce weight, you can get your umbrella rigs into the strike zone. Landing a nice striped bass on a lightweight, 7-foot outfit with braided fishing line is a heck of a lot more fun than catching one on a broomstick rigged with cumbersome wire line. Search Go.

Location: Louist Trichardt, Limpopo. Catching on braid is an infinitely more rewarding way to fight a fish than on mono, with every bit of the fight being transmitted up this non-stretching material. I'm not a trolling guy but every time I've done offshore trips with charters, there's always the handful of TLDs streaming Rappies on mono out the back of the boat and it can make an otherwise potentially boring trip to the fishing ground a bit more exciting.

But when the reel starts to scream and you take the rod out of the trolling holder, unless it's one of those fish that likes aerobatics, you could be fighting a drogue with all the stretch in the mono.

The fight only becomes something when you get the fish to within 20 yards of the boat. So, does anyone troll with braid? What are the reasons to NOT use braid? Can braid be used with a slightly longer rod with a nice soft tip? Forgive me Father for I have spinned It's been three weeks since my last cob session. Thank the Almighty! Location: Cape Town. No stretch, so hooks pull or straighten on the strike, or connection or line pops on a heavy strike.

The mono's stretch gives a better action to lures being trolled, braid tends to pop them out the water. Also multiple hook ups are a nightmare on braid, if one guy is on braid he will cut off the others on mono..

BUT the fight on most fish is better on braid, some hard fighting fish you'd wish you had some stretch for forgiveness or some fish have soft mouths and the braid tends to wear holes in the mouth and pull hooks.

FishStyx you can use any length rod you happy with no matter what anybody else says advantages and disadvantages , for me, trolling needs no casting, just drop the lure in the water and set your distance, i like rods of 6ft, 6ft 6in and 7ft rods for trolling with sloppy action and a good strong butt.

Braid is very expensive, sometimes your spread might get tangled, try undoing 30m of braid.
