It wasn't always that way, though. Once upon a time, there was the Subaru Brat. It was a funky Subaru Leone-based truck that Subaru ultimately pulled the plug on in Fast forward a couple of years, and Subaru brought the spirit of the Brat back in the form of the Baja compact pickup.
Although the rhyming Bs of the Brat and the Baja may be confusing, these Subaru trucks share next to nothing in common. The Brat and the Baja did, however, share a groovy, rebellious spirit that blurred the line between car and truck. It wasn't the only one of its kind, as other options such as the Chevrolet El Camino, Dodge Rampage, Ford Ranchero, and Volkswagen Caddy, all relied on a similar concept.
If you want a truck get a full 4x4 truck As for off-road Crosstrek has been getting that fun and if I were in market to replace my own 99 legacy sedan I'd only do it because it's beyond repair which mine ain't If I going truck I would want to be able to do some serious towing with it which unfortunately Subaru does not have something that can tow lbs of enclosed trailer So again if that was something i we're looking for it wouldn't be a Subaru I look to They just not that sort of company so it'd be a Ford or perhaps a Toyota David Z wrote on June 14, - am Permalink.
My 09 LGT was an amazing car, looked great, performed great and fun to drive. The reason Legacies aren't selling is because the design is boring, and the base model engine is weak.
Subaru needs to add a turbo on the base model and maybe lower the displacement like Honda did with the Accord. I leased a Accord Sport because Legacies were difficult to find, higher base price, boring design, and slow acceleration. I would have loved to have purchased a Limited XT, but styling is not exciting, and priced higher than what I was looking to spend.
I think Subaru needs to hire new designers like KIA did , and offer a turbo with base engine. Bob wrote on June 14, - pm Permalink. The Legacy hasn't been relevant since Subaru of America forced it to become an American family sedan version of the Outback.
There was a time when the Legacy was a sporty premium Japanese sedan and wagon car that sold well worldwide. I think the fourth generation ending in was the last good versions of Legacy.
After that they chased after big FWD American Family sedans that were appliance like, slow and handled like boats. Even the new XT turbo version is not that fast and handles poorly. They should replace the current Legacy with the Levorg.
Subaru had a sporty turbo sedan, with the Legacy, and just gave up on it before every good manufacturer started cloning what the old Legacy used to be.
Now everyone is adding AWD to their big American family sedans and Subaru is now just making another big family sedan that no one really cares about. John Saunders wrote on August 3, - pm Permalink. I have a '21 Legacy XT. Love it. The design is why I chose it over the Camry or Accord. Handles great and plenty of power for a sedan. The Baja was cute but too small of a bed.
Reconfigure the Accent to have a truck bed or just buy one of the many trucks out there. Believe it or not, not everyone wants to drive a SUV or a truck even a wannbe every day. In the summer of , the Subaru Baja made its debut as a model. The name refered to the famous Baja rally taking place in the Mexican desert. Aesthetically, there were only minor departures from the ST-X. More specifically, the body cladding and the rear bars had a slightly different look.
However, the Switchback became nothing more than a small removable panel, while a fixed rear window ensured greater structural rigidity. Still, owners could use the system to load various objects up to 1. Also, the tailgate could be folded down and aluminum cargo bars would drop on it for more versatility. In this configuration, the Baja was able to fit two dirt bikes or a kart. As for towing capacity, the 2, pounds were enough to pull all sorts of trailers and camping gear.
The Turbo version added a fast and fun wild card making this Subaru pickup truck even more exciting. It became available starting for the model year. It was a bit of a diversion form the original horsepower engine it was released with. Car and Driver reported a 2.
It generates up to horsepower. Also, a powerful pound-feet of torque. This made the Baja a fun city driver in addition to being the little sand trotter it already was. The Subaru Baja pickup truck station wagon ute creation hit a niche. A few people really loved the tiny unibody truck. Additionally, CarBuzz sites slow sales.
